National Volunteer Week

This morning I realized that today is the start of National Volunteer Week - a time to recognize the power of volunteers and their profound impact on our community and the world. The theme for this year is "Volunteering is Empathy In Action," recognizing the strong connection between volunteering and empathy. While your contributions and efforts continue throughout the year and should be recognized all year long, I want to take advantage of this day to recognize and thank all of you for your energy and time spent on making Soroptimist International of Camas-Washougal (soon to be Clark County) a vibrant and strong organization. Volunteers like you are tackling some of the greatest challenges facing women and girls, and making a difference while doing it.

Because of you, our club is fiscally strong and stable. The countless hours you spent on raising money for the club created our financial strength and stability. Our financial situation allows us to make significant contributions to empower women and girls in the local community, the region and the world. For all your contributions, I thank you.

Because of you, our club survived a pandemic. You never gave up. You kept the club going in the face of unprecedented difficulties and obstacles, including the isolation we faced as a group. Due to your dedication and commitment to the club, we came out of the pandemic stronger with additional talented members. For all your dedication and commitment, I thank you.

Because of you, we have given a "hand up" to numerous women and girls, and empowering them to improve their lives. Your time, talent, voice and financial generosity is making a difference in our local community, one dream at a time. You have helped homeless women in this community. You have helped survivors of abuse in this community. You have helped women who have overcome horrific obstacles. You have helped women struggling with self-confidence. For all the women and girls you have helped I, along with these women and girls, thank you!

I am so proud to be a part of the fantastic group of women who work together under the Soroptimist umbrella. I want you to know that you and your efforts are appreciated not only this week, but every week of the year. I want to end with a shout out to everyone in the club THANK YOU!!!!
